Welcome!
The National Collegiate Band Leadership Association was founded in December of 2005 to recognize excellence in leadership, integrity, and commitment in collegiate bands. These values are needed in order to succeed in America, and no organization fosters these values like bands. However, before the NCBLA, no organization existed to provide this type of individual recognition. Our staff works continuously to give support to struggling bands and prepare for our annual awards banquet for the Dr. Thomas E. Lyle Leadership Award.
The mission of the National Collegiate Band Leadership Association is to support leaders in bands through recognition and provide assistance to struggling university bands through fundraising and insight in order to promote leadership, integrity, and commitment.
The Membership of the National Collegiate Band Leadership Association believes that it must always be flexible to change, to stay ahead of trends and to always protect the best interests of our students and music.
As its guiding principle, the NCBLA further believes that music holds a unique place in human existence and touches our lives in ways that no other experience can. We believe that our growth as individuals is defined in terms of our ability to develop thinking capacities, motor skills, and affective responses.
Music is unique in that it has the potential to develop people in all three areas, fostering performance skills, musical and musical creativity and response. We believe that because of its special qualities, music is clearly justified in assuming a prominent role in the school curriculum, both as an academic and an artistic discipline.
The NCBLA is concerned with the promotion and development of band programs by providing opportunities for in-service growth through clinics and conferences, and by acting as a resource for college and university pre-service training programs that encourage professional development.
The NCBLA provides opportunity for realistic and constructive program evaluation through the sponsorship of solo/ensemble and large group ensemble Music Performance Assessments at the District and State levels.
The Constitution and By-Laws of the NCBLA exist for the purpose of codifying and facilitating the stated philosophy, and to provide the means for change and amendment as needed.
